Heritage Tomato Sweets
At Fat Tomato, we grow over 100 heritage tomato varieties every year, varying in colours, sizes, textures, and flavours. Some are delicious to eat fresh with flaky Irish sea salt and maybe some extra virgin olive oil, while others have a fleshy texture that makes beautiful sauces, jams, and chutneys.
During tomato season, we eat tomatoes night, noon, and morning, as they bring us so much joy after the months of growing them from February. We also preserve tomatoes in various ways for the year ahead.
These dried heritage tomato slices are a taste of this year’s tomato season in a jar. We have dried a variety of tomatoes at different stages of ripeness at a very low temperature for a long period of time. Some are uber-sweet and chewy, while others are tangy. A sprinkle of Achill Island sea salt is added at the end of the drying period to heighten the flavour.
Due to the crazy weather this year, we only have a handful of jars to sell.

These tomato slices add some drama to your cocktails and meals. They are delicious on their own as a snack, on crackers with Killowen Farm cream cheese, as a cocktail garnish, or crushed over salads served in the middle of the table.
